Unlike other Norwegian Cruise Line ships built recently, Norwegian Joy does not have single cabins, but instead occupies the space with Interior Family Suites. (NOTE: In October 2023 Norwegian reclassified a number of cabins as single (solo) cabins. There are 1926 staterooms on board, with the largest being the Haven Deluxe Owners Suites.
In April of 2019 the ship moved to the American Market. As part of the this change, the Karaoke rooms became card and conference room. The Atrium café became Starbucks. The Tea Room became The Local. Grand Tea Room became District Brew House. Le Cave became The Cellars. Sugarcane Mojito Bar was added. Neptunes Seafood became Los Lobos. Observation Lounge added to deck 15. Fitness center relocated from deck 16 to deck 17 and replaced Noodle Bar.
This is the first ship to feature a 2-level Ferrari racetrack, which has a capacity of 10 racers at a time. Passengers in the Concierge and Haven staterooms enjoy complimentary rides for the entire cruise. Other fun activities include an open-air laser tag course, a rock-climbing wall, sports complex, zip line, mini golf course, and an Aqua park with 2 multi-deck water slides and 2 racing water slides, plus a kids water fun zone.
This ship features an extended Haven area that has an outdoor terrace, private restaurant, courtyard area with retractable roof pool, whirlpools, spa treatment rooms, sauna, and private sundeck.
There are plenty of unique dining options on board including 3 main dining rooms and 8 other complimentary options that give a wide-range of cuisines. Specialty restaurants require an extra fee and include Cagneys Steakhouse, Le Bistro French Restaurant, Teppanaki Japanese, La Cucina Italian, and Moderno Churrascaria (brazilian steakhouse), and Ocean Blue (Seafood).
Nightly entertainment can be found at a large selection of theatres, lounges, and bars. The Joy Theater features 2 grand shows per night, and the Social Comedy and Nightclub offers live entertainment by comedians and DJs. The Sugarcane Mojito Bar offers live latin music and The Cavern Club Lounge offers dynamic performances with live percussions and high-energy music. The 678 Ocean Place spans 3-decks and has live entertainment nightly.
Children and teens will have plenty to do at their own age-appropriate clubs. There is also an indoor virtual-world complex, video games arcade, and game tables.
Adults can spend time at Spice H20 which is a relaxation area with 1 pool, 2 whirlpools, and bar and grill. Or for an extra fee they can enjoy time at the Vibe Beach Club which offers private cabanas, sundeck, bar, and whirlpools. The Spa is also a great space to relax in and they have a Thermal Suite, Salt Room, Beauty Salon, MediSpa, and Aerobics Studio.
During drydock Jan 6 to Feb 13, 2024 converted the port side of observation lounge to 24 new staterooms. Converted Galaxy Pavilion to a Thermal Suite. Removed Laser Tag and expanded Vibe into that area.
