One of 8 ships built for Renaissance Cruises, their naming policy says it all. She was laid up in Tahiti following the collapse of her owners in 2001 and was sold with sister R4 to Princess Cruises for $150,000,000 and renamed Pacific Princess. Her sister is named Tahitian Princess. Pacific Princess operates for both P&O Australia and Princess Cruises.

During May 2017 drydock mattresses were changed, new couch added to mini-suites. New carpeting and paint throughout ship.

In 2021 this ship was sold to Azamara Cruises and renamed as Azamara Onward.

Maiden voyage as an Azamara ship was on May 2, 2022.

There are 5 restaurants which includes the main dining room Discoveries Restuarant which has no assigned seating and offers flexible dining for all three meals of the day. There is also a casual buffet, a casual grill, and alfresco restaurant. Specialty restaurants include an italian restaurant, and a steak and seafood grill.

There is also 8 bars and lounges, fitness facilities, shops, and The Sanctum Spa. One of the most popular new spaces is The Den, which has a bar and lounge area, shore excursion desk, and travel guide library. The Living Room is also a great place to relax or listen to music at night.

The layout of the ship is very similar to fleetmates Journey, Quest, and Pursuit.
